I ran across this item while searching for an unrelated product and I simply have to write about it. WOW... is all I can say. This is indeed perfect to really get your guests just stunned by the shock value alone not to mention what I feel is the Hip, or coolness of this item. I absolutely love it. I think it is a great concept and shows off our preferred style modern, contemporary. It not only adds color to dark or light earth toned kitchens, but also can be used in just about any setting. Imagine bathroom counter tops, even vanity counter top, desk tops.. I absolutely love this idea and therefore am forced to post it ASAP on my blog. I would love to know by way of comments what all of you think about this as I think it is truly a remarkable product.

I normally do not write about hotels but during my last trip to Hong Kong I visited and stayed a few nights at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and I finally found some pictures that give it the recognition it deserves. Its a world class hotel with world class amenities and not as expensive as many of you are thinking. Hong Kong has been hit hard by the H1N1 Flu virus, something that is mostly talk now and history yet people still seem to avoid the once famed British colony with its expensive man made airport. It feels very much like China now, but then again China is a growing giant, a country you seem pretty free in and most people just go about their lives trying to make money and government and politics has become something to laugh about and joke at the diner table. Sort of like Michelle Bachman here in the United States and her run for US President. I am not dying now hysterically because I have to finish this blog posting.. Both countries are a lot more a like then our governments want us to believe. But anyway back to the hotel, its an amazing piece of architecture, interior design, and exterior beauty, and the rooms, well see for yourself.... Simply elegance at its best.

I saw this in an article I was reading and just had to share. Its a trash compost that also is not only modern, contemporary, but a very nice piece to look at and use as home decor, instantly transforming any room into a futuristic looking, like something you would see on Star Trek or one of those type shows. Our homes dispose of a huge amount of organic waste, old foods which could easily be recycled by ourselves. Eva is a green and exciting eco-friendly alternative to traditional compost heap methods, designed by innovative French product designer Francois Hurtaud, who lives in Shanghai. 

Eva is a self-contained biosphere homefarm system, which not only allows you to cultivate vegetables but also produces fresh air and light. It is designed to be quickly assembled and maintained, making it mobile and easy to set up anywhere. 

One part of the waste is recycled to grow food and the other part produces methane, which is then transformed into energy, thanks to the co-generator. Once this energy is obtained it then produces light which stimulates the growth of the plants. 

The water, as it enters the container, is naturally filtered. The whole process can be viewed in the diagrams below, and the interior settings show how stylish and modern they look in contemporary interiors, giving a futuristic aspect to room.

IKEA is a one stop shop on all items for our everyday modern, contemporary homes. 

Part 9 - Home Decor


IKEA as we have seen has something for every room in the house. But as we will see in this podsting, it also features something to accent and decorate every room in the house. From Candles, to paintings, to frames, to desks, chairs, tables, lamps, etc, etc, etc.. IKEA has everything for our modern homes and at unbelievable prices. As stated in my first posting, every couch, lamp, or chair will NOT be named after someone but it will look identical to the 10,000 or 30,000 named couch we have seen so many times in those high end designer magazines or interior design magazines. 

Will it look the same yes, will it feel the same, most likely not, will it be as comfortable or more so.. of course. So in the end we get a comfortable ulternative that looks just as good and costs 10 times less.. I am sold.. IKEA is doing very well because of these types of ideas and with the economy the way it is, in my opinion it will continue to do so. 

IKEA presents us with a way to live modern, contemporary lifestyles in a way we can enjoy them and not scream or jump everytime someone or our pets gets near our 20,000 dollar Jack Shuman (name made up) couch, or Jean Pierre (name made up) chair or some other named piece of furniture or rug in our homes we can't even pronounce. 

My philosophy is look like a million bucks but also enjoy yourself without having to spend a million bucks. IKEA gives us that chance and opportunity. Have a look at the following design ideas and concepts, all from IKEA.
